PLTW Sun, Moon, and Stars Parent Activity
For this PLTW module, students were tasked with designing and testing a structure that would prevent students from getting overheated or sunburnt on our playground. With the help of their parents, students were able to go through the Engineering Design Process, and build and test their structures. Students built their structures out of collected recycled materials. They did a great job!
Book Drive - First Grade PBL
We love books! Our book drive is in FULL EFFECT! We have been sign waving and getting the word out that we are collecting books for our school! Kapolei Representative, Sharon Har, even stopped by to talk to us about the importance of reading and donated a heap of books! Thank you to all who have participated!!
Read Hard, Play Hard
Thanks to our UH Football Players for coming in to help us with our PBL Unit on the Importance of Reading! We had UH player, Wyatt Tucker, come in and read a book to our first graders! We also played a reading game on the grass and they even stayed for Recess! What a wonderful experience to teach our students that EVERYBODY reads!
Pumpkin Parade
As an introduction to our grade's first PBL project, the students were able to create a pumpkin based on their favorite book character! They did an excellent job! The students were also able to write notes of appreciation to the other classes!
2017-2018
Pic Collage
Our students used the app Pic Collage to create some cool collages of who they are and what they like!
Leprechaun Traps
Our first graders made leprechaun traps for Saint Patrick's Day! They used innovation, research, and collaboration to create, demonstrate, and present their amazing traps!
All about Sounds!
Student Showcase piece February 2018
Our artwork was inspired by Pablo Picasso's abstract way of designing and interpreting what a musical instrument (guitar) looks like. We also incorporated different sound waves in the background to compliment our piece with bright colors!
We paired our artwork with an informative writing piece discussing what we have learned about sounds in our PLTW module on Light and Sound.
